The Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development is used to identify deficits in very young children across five major developmental domains: cognitive, language, motor, adaptive behaviour and social-emotional. This scale is ideal for use when delays or problems in early development are suspected to determine whether early intervention or further assessment are required. It indicates strengths, weaknesses, and competencies so that parents and professionals can properly plan for the child.

Description

The Bayley-4 Workshops are conducted by Dr Melissa Ross, an experienced Clinical Psychologist who specialises in developmental assessment. Dr Ross has considerable experience as a clinical psychologist in the areas of child development, developmental disability and the assessment of infants and pre-schoolers.

The Bayley Scales of Infant Development (Bayley-4) are recognised internationally as one of the most comprehensive tools to assess children from as young as 16 days old. With Bayley-4, it is possible to obtain detailed information even from non-verbal children as to their functioning. The Bayley-4 Australian & New Zealand has locally acquired norms.

Children are assessed in the five key developmental domains of cognition, language, motor, social-emotional, and adaptive behaviour.

The Workshop programme covers:

  • An introduction to the Bayley Scales of Infant & Toddler Development – Fourth Edition (Aust & NZ).
  • The standardisation project, including Australia and New Zealand standisation
  • Item introduction
  • Video demonstration
  • Practice testing using a video of an infant or toddler
  • Scoring of scales and statistical interpretation
  • Discussion of assessment findings
  • Case study presentations

Prerequisites

Changes have been made to the eligibility requirements of the Bayley-4 Accreditation Training. This change has come about due to consultation with senior paediatric staff and the quality of post workshop assignments returned.

In order to be eligible for the Bayley-4 Accreditation Training you must have a user level of a C, S or B. In order to receive a user level you will need to register at the Pearson Clinical website >> www.pearsonclinical.com.au/accounts/create - If you fall into this category there is nothing else that you will need to do as you will be fully eligible for the Accreditation Training.

If you receive a user level of anything else; including M, T or A* you will need to take a few more steps before your eligibility can be determined. Please note if you fall into this category once you complete training you will only be accredited as a Technical Administrator. You can become an Accredited Examiner after one year of supervised administration, scoring and reporting. A letter from the original supervisor must be submitted to us to indicate that the supervisor believes that they are competent in the use of the Bayley-4Assessment and you will be issued with a certificate to indicate that you are fully accredited as an examiner to administer, score and report on the Bayley-4.

You will be required to have a supervisor to supervise your administration, scoring and reporting while using the Bayley-4. This supervisor MUST be a user level C, S or B and be one of the following; Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Speech Pathologist, Physiotherapist or a fully qualified Neonatologist or Developmental Paediatrician with at least 6 – 12 months experience using the Bayley-4. Both you and your supervisor will have to sign an agreement with Pearson Academy to acknowledge the supervision requirements and expectations. We will also require you to submit a letter explaining why you wish to complete the Bayley-4 Training (whether this may be for developmental training/clinical training). If you are undertaking this for a research project you will be required to complete the “Details on Research for Research Applicants” form.

Once we receive the appropriate paperwork a decision will be made on your eligibility at which point you will be informed.

*These include; Provisionally Registered Psychologist, Neonatal Fellows, Paediatric Doctors, Developmental Paediatricians, Allied Health Assistant, Community Physicians, Clinical Nurse Practitioners, Research Assistant.

 

Please Note: Research Assistants will only become accredited as a Technical Administrator and can only become fully accredited once they complete their training to become a clinician.
