A dynamic and engaging half-day workshop to transform how you differentiate learning in your Science classroom using Pearson Science. Learn the key elements for successful differentiation and how formative assessment can enhance learning for your students.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this workshop, participants should:

  • be able to articulate why it is critical for differentiation to permeate teaching practice.
  • understand how to differentiate content, process, product and environment.
  • know how to use Pearson Science to support successful differentiation within the classroom.
  • know how formative assessment supports effective differentiation.
  • be able to use Lightbook Starter for formative assessment and to identify students’ learning needs.

This workshop addresses the following AITSL Standards:

  • 1.2 Structure teaching programs using research and collegial advice about how students learn.
  • 1.5 Develop teaching activities that incorporate differentiated strategies to meet the specific learning needs of students across the full range of abilities.
  • 2.6 Use effective teaching strategies to integrate ICT into learning and teaching programs to make selected content relevant and meaningful.
  • 3.1 Set explicit, challenging and achievable learning goals for all students.
  • 3.3 Select and use relevant teaching strategies to develop knowledge, skills, problem solving and critical and creative thinking.
  • 5.1 Develop, select and use informal and formal, diagnostic, formative and summative assessment strategies to assess student learning.
  • 5.4 Use student assessment data to analyse and evaluate student understanding of subject/content, identifying interventions and modifying teaching practice.
  • 6.2 Engage in professional learning and improve practise

This workshop is designed for educators who are current users, or recent adopters, of Pearson Science.

Prerequisites

View the Lightbook Starter demonstration videos. Complete the pre-reading, which will be provided as an attachment to the registration confirmation email.

If possible, bring a tablet or laptop and your Pearson Places login credentials to the workshop.
