Cathy Sproal was a classroom teacher for more than 30 years, and taught all primary year levels over that time. As well as being a classroom teacher, Cathy also served as her school's Literacy Coach across two campuses, a role she held for 12 years.

As a Literacy Coach, Cathy’s areas of focus were Guided Reading, writing and comprehension. In this role she also provided professional learning and support to all classroom teachers and Educational Support Officers, from P-9 in the Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System and in Leveled Literacy Intervention.   

Cathy has also had the opportunity over her career to work extensively with dyslexic students, developing and honing her expertise in this area. She has served as an Online Training Tutor and Presenter for the Victorian Education Department, where she facilitated professional learning on Understanding Dyslexia and Difficulties in Reading, Inclusion of Students with Speech, Language and Communication Needs, and Understanding Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Since retiring from teaching in 2016, Cathy has joined the Pearson Academy presenter team, and also consults in schools, providing professional development and support in areas of Literacy teaching and learning.

Continuing to pursue her passion for education, she plans to commence further studies in Dyslexia and Synthetic Phonics.
